It’s not easy getting through a Nashville summer without air conditioning. If summer has arrived and your vehicle cooling system is blowing warm air, it’s time to come in for an A/C repair. There are a variety of things components that could be in need of repair and there is no way to tell which one it is until we take a closer look. A sign that your A/C needs repaired before you need it for cooling purposes is when you turn on your defroster in the winter months and it takes longer to clear your windows—or it isn’t clearing your windows. Since most A/C systems dehumidify the air that is fogging up your windows an A/C inspection is required.
Refrigerant is the chemical used to power your air conditioning system, it is the green alternative to the now band refrigerant Freon. However, topping things off is rarely the appropriate fix for any of your essential vehicle fluids, with the exception of your windshield wiper fluid. The reasons for this are many. For example, topping off your refrigerant may get your A/C back up to full speed—but if there is a leak in a hose or connector it is only a temporary and insufficient fix. This approach will often damage the compressor. The newer your vehicle the more likely your cooling will shut down when there is a lead and your fluid gets low. As a general rule, you only need to replace refrigerant every 3 years or so—unless you drive full-time or commute long distances.
The average vehicle A/C unit loses about 5% of its efficiency annually. While you may not notice the minor difference in performance until a few years in once you hit a dip of 20% or more you are likely to notice. Even if your system eventually cools your vehicle we can inspect and repair your cooling system to ensure it is working at its optimal level.
